Palu, April 18, 2026 – Gateball in Central Sulawesi has begun setting its sights on the international stage following the official inauguration of the new executive board of the Central Sulawesi Provincial Chapter of the Indonesian Gateball Association (PERGATSI) in Palu on Saturday (April 18, 2026).

The inauguration ceremony was led directly by Diana Kusumastuti, Chairwoman of the Central Executive Board of PERGATSI and Deputy Minister of Public Works, at Aston Hotel Palu. The event was also attended by Central Sulawesi Vice Governor Reny Lamadjido.

Central Sulawesi PERGATSI Chairman, Dr. Ir. Faidul Keteng, S.T., M.Si., M.T., IPU, emphasized that one of the new board's primary objectives is to promote gateball as an official sport in international multi-sport events, particularly the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia.

“At the national level, PERGATSI is striving to have gateball included in the SEA Games. We hope that Central Sulawesi athletes will have the opportunity to participate if this goal is realized,” he said.

This optimism is supported by the province's steadily improving achievements. At the 2024 National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh and North Sumatra, Central Sulawesi made history by becoming the overall champion during gateball's official debut at the event, winning three gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal.

In addition, gateball has been designated as one of Central Sulawesi's priority sports in preparation for the 2028 National Sports Week (PON) in East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara.

In her remarks, Diana Kusumastuti encouraged the province not only to maintain its achievements but also to continue improving them. She noted that Central Sulawesi has demonstrated remarkable consistency, both in national championships and international tournaments.

Previously, Central Sulawesi PERGATSI also achieved overall championship titles in several national competitions and won the 2025 Minister of Public Works Rolling Trophy.

With the inauguration of the new board, athlete development is expected to become more structured and focused, ensuring that the province's tradition of excellence continues while opening greater opportunities for athletes to compete at the international level.
