SERANG, PERGATSI – The BGC 064 Banten Open Triple Gateball Tournament marked an important step in the Indonesian Gateball Association (PERGATSI) Banten Provincial Board’s efforts to strengthen athlete development while fostering closer ties among gateball clubs from different regions. Held at the Korem 064/Maulana Yusuf Headquarters Field in Serang on Saturday (July 4, 2026), the tournament brought together 14 teams representing Banten, Jakarta, Lampung, and West Java.
Organized by Baluwarti Gateball Club (BGC) 064 Korem 064/Maulana Yusuf, the event contested the Open Triple category, allowing athletes of all age groups to participate. Beyond serving as a competitive tournament, the event also functioned as a field test and an opportunity to strengthen the presence of the newly established club.
Acting Chairman of Pergatsi Banten, Colonel Kav Ferry
Stevanus Lahe, S.A.P., M.H., emphasized that the fun game was designed not only
to determine champions but also to promote unity and enhance the quality of
gateball development throughout Banten Province.
“We organized this fun game as a platform for friendship
while also testing the playing field and providing opportunities for gateball
athletes from various regions to compete. The tournament features the Open
Triple category, meaning there are no age restrictions. A total of 14 teams
from Lampung, Jakarta, and Banten participated in this event,” Ferry said in an
interview with Pergatsi on Monday (July 6, 2026).
According to Ferry, BGC 064 is a newly established club
within Korem 064/Maulana Yusuf, created as part of a broader effort to expand
gateball development across Banten. The tournament organizing committee was
chaired by Captain Inf. Yadi Mulyadi, who also serves as Chairman of BGC 064.
Competition remained intense through to the final match.
PAGAS 1 Lampung emerged as the tournament champion after defeating Goheba Jakarta in the championship game. Joint third place was shared by SGC Pamulang
Banten and JFC Cinere.
Ferry further explained that the tournament forms part of
Pergatsi Banten's preparations for several major upcoming events, including the
2026 National Gateball Championship (Kejurnas) in September and the Provincial
Community Sports Festival (Korprov) scheduled for November. Athlete selection
is currently underway to assemble the strongest possible team to represent
Banten at the national level.
“Last year, we managed to win only one bronze medal at the
National Championship. Through a more structured and systematic athlete
selection process, we are targeting at least two gold medals at the upcoming
championship. We are committed to preparing our best athletes to compete
successfully at the national level,” Ferry stated.
He also revealed that Pergatsi Banten is coordinating with
the Indonesian Community Sports Committee (KORMI) to provide greater
opportunities for gateball to be featured in community sports events. This
initiative is expected to broaden athlete development while increasing public
interest in the sport.
Through the organization of the BGC 064 Banten Open Triple
Fun Game, Pergatsi Banten remains optimistic that athlete development will
become more sustainable. Tournaments like this are considered a vital
foundation for producing high-achieving athletes while reinforcing Banten's
position as one of Indonesia's most active regions in developing the sport of
gateball. (PAH/ROY)
